Instructions after any oral surgical procedures

I will be discussing here some of the Do's and Dont's , in brief for a better understanding -

The most important of all is that ,one must take the prescribed medicines and complete the doses.
Stop the medicine and Inform the doctor immediately ,if the patient has any allergic reaction or has any other problem. One must never skip antibiotic doses so never waste any time.
Antibiotic should start 3 to 4 days before the treatment and the same must continue to complete the course, this is to prevent the future complications.
Before the surgical procedure ,patient must inform the family physician and ask him to stop the drugs that will prevent platelet aggregation - and if not ,must bring all the documents to the dentist for a proper treatment planning.Patients having cardiac or any other surgeries are often not allowed an invasive dental treatment within 6 month,i.e. in the recovery phase.
Patient must carry any emergency drugs given to him ,by the family physician - this helps in case of an acute attack.

Instructions just after an oral surgical procedure -
1) Compress the cotton roll or pressure pack ,given in your mouth by the dentist,at-least for 30 minutes, after an operation.
2) Never try to spit out or suck , following to an oral surgery.
3) Eat cold items like Ice-creams and cold soft food after a surgery.
4) Don't drink or eat warm food and drinks for at-least 3days.
5) Only eat cold soft food for your meals , at- least for 3 days after a surgery. If the procedure includes a larger area in your mouth, this diet must continue till the surgical site heals properly.
6) Gently rinse your mouth with workadiene /mild warm saline or any other oral anti-septic solutions, after every meal and drink.Warm must be avoided in cases of infection and for them who has a history of excessive bleeding .
7) Patients must keep the oral cavity clean to prevent the growing micro-organisms.
8) Patients must visit the doctor 7 to 10days after the surgery to have a check up.
9) In case of uncontrolled bleeding, inform the doctor immediately.
a)cold pressure pack can be applied in the surgical area to stop bleeding.
b)medication that prevents platelet aggregation, must be stopped at least for 7 days.
c)medications like " PAUSE " can be taken, which will help to stop the bleeding.(refer to your doctor before taking such medications)
10)Do not BRUSH or pressurize in the surgical area, till the wound is heals properly.

These are the few basic instructions to be followed after an surgical procedure.Hope this will help all the patients to protect themselves from post surgical complications.
